Dr. Gloria Morrow is a licensed clinical
psychologist practicing in Upland, California located in
Southern California about 60 miles east of Los Angeles.
She specializes in treating adults and adolescents who suffer
from depression, anxiety, grief and loss issues, married and
pre-married couples, families, and
groups.
Dr. Morrow, a nationally recognized speaker has practiced her
unique gift of imparting knowledge, by serving as associate
professor of psychology and clinical training director for the
doctoral program in Community-Clinical Psychology at
University of La Verne, and associate professor of counseling
and clinical training director of the Masters in Counseling
program at California State University, Fullerton. She
continues to serve as adjunct faculty for University of La
Verne.
In addition to her responsibilities as a clinical
psychologist, Dr. Morrow is an academic researcher. As a
researcher, the findings of her work and various research
projects featuring African Americans are presented each year
at professional conferences and workshops all over the world,
including Cape Town, South Africa.
As a top-rated professional with profound insight in her
trade, she has been featured in a host of newspapers, and she
has been cited in critically acclaimed national publications
such as Psychology Today,
Jet Magazine and Heart and
Soul Magazine. She is a guest columnist
for the Imani Magazine, an Atlanta based
national magazine and co-publisher of the award winning
African-American weekly newspaper, Inland Valley News.
Dr. Morrow has also been interviewed on a variety of radio
talk shows, such as KPFK 90.7 FMs talk show, Some of us are
Brave, KJLHs Front Page in Inglewood, California, Mystic 1580
in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, 1490 WMBM in Miami, Florida, and
1290 WMCS Morning Magazine Show with Keith Murphy in
Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She was also recently interviewed
on radio talk shows in Charlotte, South Carolina, Chicago,
Illinois, and Baton Rouge,
Louisiana.
As a relationship expert her work with couples is
overwhelmingly successful and she facilitates numerous
seminars and retreats for married and engaged couples.
Presently she facilitates a seminar twice a year to help
couples to improve the quality of their marital relationships
entitled, Strengthening the Ties the
Bind. She also facilitates an annual
retreat for single adults entitled, While you are
Waiting.
Dr. Morrow has been called upon to address the issue of
cultural competence, and she has served as workshop
facilitator and diversity trainer all across the State of
California. She was recently commissioned to facilitate
cultural competence training for Harvey Mudd University, a top
engineering school in Claremont,
California.
Her workshops entitled, Meeting the Mental Health
Needs of African American Clients, and the
The Role of the Black Church in the Service
Delivery to African Americans, are instrumental
in helping mental health care providers to become more
culturally competent in providing effective mental health
services to the African American community. In addition,
she recently worked with a team of psychologists to develop a
train the trainers manual for the California Brief
Multicultural Competence Training Program. Dr. Morrow
has developed a video entitled Understanding the
Cultural World of African American Clients and
she is a member of a research team at University of La
Verne. Currently Dr. Morrow serves as a psychological
consultant for the California Black Womens Health Network and
she is the Executive Director of Partners in Faith (PIF):
Redefining Mental Health through Education, Outreach and
Resources. This collaborative is designed to enhance the
psychological and overall well being of African
Americans.
Over the years, Dr. Morrow has received local, state and
national recognition for her work and has been the recipient
of various prestigious research fellowships and
scholarships/grant
awards.
Dr. Morrow earned a Ph. D. and a Master of Arts degree in
Clinical Psychology from The Fielding Graduate Institute, a
Master of Arts degree in Marriage & Family Counseling from
Azusa Pacific University, and a Bachelors of Science degree in
Psychology from University of Laverne. She is a member of
American Psychological Association, American Counseling
Association and the Association of Black Psychologist and is
affiliated with several other community organizations and
causes promoting mental health awareness and
healing.
Dr. Morrow is the author of
Too Broken to be Fixed? A Spiritual Guide to
Inner Healing, and her new books,
Strengthening the Ties that Bind: A Guide to a
Healthy Marriage and The Things
that Make Men Cry, are scheduled for release in
January of
2005.
Dr. Morrow is married to Rev. Tommy Morrow
and they have three children, and three grandchildren.
Rev. and Dr. Morrow are the co-publishers of Inland Valley
News, a weekly newspaper, co-founders of the African Village
Weekend: Cultural and Performing Arts, Inc., and co-pastors of
the Victory Community Church in Pomona, California.
