Post-doctoral research fellow participating in research relative to African American acculturation and identity issues.
Counseling & Psychological Services/Cal Polytechnic University at Pomona - 9/99-7/00
Provided psychological services and assessment to individuals, couples, and groups who were students at the university, with a focus on the treatment of depression, anxiety, crisis, and trauma, substance abuse, and domestic violence. Facilitated groups for African American students relative to issues of depression, substance abuse, and adjustment issues.
County of San Bernardino/ Juvenile Justice Center 9/98-5/99
Provided individual psychotherapy to a diverse population of incarcerated adolescent males and females housed in San Bernardino County Juvenile Hall. Conducted all initial intakes, and saw inmates for 6-8 visits. As part of this experience, provided individual therapy to youngsters hospitalized in Ward B in the Children’s Inpatient Unit of the County Hospital. Provided supervision to practicum level doctoral students during this post-doctoral internship.

PRE-DOCTORAL GRADUATE TRAINING
Tri-City Mental Health Center 9/96-8/97
Provided individual therapy, assessment, and testing to ethnically/culturally diverse culturally diverse children, adolescents, and adults who suffered from chronic psychological disorders (i.e., schizophrenia, substance abuse, bipolar disorder, major depression, conduct disorder, attention deficit disorder), and Axis II disorders. Developed and led adolescent groups at an alternative high school that focused on self-esteem, peer mediation, and anger management.

Provided individual psychotherapy, assessment, and testing to a diverse population of children and adults who suffered from chronic psychological disorders. Involved in the day treatment program of this agency

Served as counselor (providing individual therapy to children, parenting class facilitator, on-site coordinator for PIP (Primary Intervention Program), mental health specialist for an after school tutorial program in the arts which was designed for at-risk students to help build self-esteem. Developed and led self-esteem and anger management groups, and started parenting classes in the home of parents.

A member of the research team devoted to the development of cultural competency instruments to assess clinicians’ level of cultural competency. In addition, conducted interviews with African American female clients to understand their experiences in the mental health system. Currently working with team to understand more about substance abuse issues in African American clients.

COURSE DEVELOPMENT
Multicultural Competency I & II 1998
Developed two courses for a Psy.D. doctoral program at University of La Verne. Multicultural I focuses on the multicultural counseling theory and research, and Multicultural II focuses on application of relevant theory and research to a multicultural clientele. Multicultural II includes an introduction to the role of religion and spirituality in the counseling context.
